I thank you Jennifer Murphy, Chair of Philly for Change for wanting change in Philly. We sorely need it and having a Green Party candidate sitting on City Council would surely be a change in Philadelphia where the Democratic Party has exercised a monopolistic stranglehold.
Your website states, "Philly for Change is a 2,000-member grassroots political organization that fights for progressive public policy at the local, state and national levels." Yet your candidate questionnaire states, "Philly for Change is a part of a national movement to rebuild the Democratic Party from the bottom up." May I suggest Philly for Change figure out its crisis identity? I was a Democrat but now I'm a Green running as a Green on the Green Party of Philadelphia ticket. Grass roots? We're not called Green for nuttin!
If you really want change, I suggest that you withhold any endorsement for City Council, 8th District, until the general election for which my campaign team is now collecting signatures to have me placed on the November ballot. As a Green, I have only recently won my party's endorsement and begun to run. I have been as welcome at most Democrat-sponsored candidate forums as a rat at The Four Seasons.
If Philly for Change decides it wants to vote on April 4 to endorse a candidate for the 8th, I suggest the endorsement clearly be limited for the May primary. Want change? "You must be the change you want to see in the world" (Thanks, M G!)
